The Drama Center started as a homegrown theater company at the West Side Y in Manhattan. We galvanized a community of writers, actors and directors. In record time, we developed and produced some amazing plays.

Always, we knew that our mission is the development of great new plays with individual voices, outstanding craft and compelling viewpoints.

Now we are offering tangible support for our mission, with professional services and The School of Story Construction. Watch for a complete curriculum of in-person and online classes, coming soon.

And we have done something truly revolutionary. We started out nonprofit. But now — that has changed. The Drama Center is a commercial theater company that intends to not only develop but finance and produce great works of theater and screen. While at the same time, we will grow both our community of artists and our audience.
